Thank you all so much for your nice comments. I'm very fond of this room, but it's been so difficult to keep warm, 'cos it's quite big, that we don't use it much in winter. However, since we got the new woodburner installed last week, it's been much, much cosier!
It's a lovely place to fall asleep in after Christmas lunch while OH loads the dishwasher and puts the kettle on!

Hi Gattina A merry Christmas to you and your family, Love the tree , We have just started to light out fire in the front room, it helps to keep the price of gas down :)

We can't get town gas out here in the mountains, so have to rely on the bottled variety - it costs an arm and a leg, which is why we can't afford to use our central heating, so wood it is! Smells quite nice, too.

Anche a te, Cara! So you're home safely? Hope you had a wonderful trip. Just spent half a day looking for Frangelico liqueur - no-one seems to have heard of it. I could buy it in England with no trouble, but you would expect something made in Italy to be on all the shelves here. Non ci credo!

Yes I'm back Gattina - going out was an ordeal - the plane was 2 hours late 'cos of delayed incoming flight and high winds then delayed our landing into Manchester by another hour ... we were nearly blown off the rickety ladder getting off the plane !!

However I had a great time seeing all my loved ones and the bitterly cold week flew by - it now seems as if I'd never been away.

I hate to admit it but I've never heard of Frangelico liqueur either!! There again I'm T T !!

Oh, condoglianze! I'm not exactly what you'd call a drinker, but every now and then I'll take a glass of wine with a meal, or a little glass of nocino or lamponcino. I certainly can't drink more than 2 glasses without dire consequences any more. Must be getting old! I do enjoy making liquori di frutta for friends and relations, though.
It looks as though the very high winds that were beating the UK to bits have now reached us! The trees are getting blown over outside, and I fear for the coppi on the roof. I've just seen a crow get blown into the side of a house across the road from us. Quite unusual for this part of the world.

It's reached us too Gats, quieter this morning, but high winds took our neighbours Tamerisk down, and woke us all up early hours yesterday...haven't seen any more local damage, but across France there's been a fair bit...

Silly thing is, almost as soon as it started, it finished. We went out yesterday afternoon to go to the builders' merchant an hour away, spent an hour with a friend on the way, then came home. When we left it was blowing a gale, when we came home, the road was littered with branches and debris, but there wasn't a breath of air. Passed in less than 4 hours! After skies the colour of blackberry jam all yesterday and great scudding clouds and rain, this morning has broken with pale skies like a blackbird's egg, and sun across the hills. Aaaah! Must get my washing out - this won't last long either!
