Some plants might not make it after our unusual big freeze but some came out looking beautiful.

Yes, it's a really tough shrub!

Thank you Paul and Stickitoffee.

Delonix,
The freeze didn't even wilt a single leaf on this shrub. It's like it doesn't feel the cold. I'm so glad it's tough.

Mine has surprised me by blooming all winter!

Like Delonix says, it's a really tough shrub.

I think it's hardiness rating is down to around 20ºF/-6.7ºC., although, not sure how long it can tolerate this temp.

Here's some info from San Marcos Grower's up in Santa Barbara, CA.

Thanks Milky and Amy. It's a real beautiful shrub to have in the garden. Makes it's presence known...and very hardy too. ;o)

Delonix,
Let's hope we don't feel those kind of temperatures here again!
I'm going to cover my tropical plants for Thursday....I'm not sure they can survive another freeze.

24 Jan, 2012

Are you expecting more freezing temps?

24 Jan, 2012

Yes.....
Very unusual for here....will last until February 5th.

Maybe this tv weatherman doesn't know what he's on about...I just look at the weather on line.
The lowest is 3C. That's not too bad....

24 Jan, 2012

That's crazy! I hope the weather people are wrong!

25 Jan, 2012

I don't know......I have a baaaad feeling.

I will keep you informed.

You are dealing with really cold weather and here we're going into extended warm to hot weather. I wouldn't be surprised if we have temps more than 85ºF/29ºC. over the several days! It's Crazy! It's not unusual for it to get this warm, but it's not too common for it to be so warm for such an extended period of time. The average high for this time of year is only 70ºF/21ºC.

25 Jan, 2012

Better the weather you have at the moment than what we're dealing with.
These temperatures are not common here.

Gorgeous Alex, such a beautiful colour too!

Thank you Janey. ;o)

Alexandramou:

Yes, it sounds very unusual for such cold weather, where you live. Hope it warms up soon.

Today it was 80ºF/27ºC...and tomorrow may be up to around 87ºF/31ºC. It's definitely feeling somewhat like summer. :>)

31C!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

26 Jan, 2012

Where I live it was 84ºF/29ºC. today. Although, I think other parts of inland San Diego County got higher than 31ºC.
