Early potato 'Rocket' chitting in the GH on Gerry's allotment. I will put these in bed #1 in a month or so.

Thank you, TT. I grew these last year for the first time. Just yesterday I was digging out some Raspberry suckers that had crossed under the path that separates the Raspberry bed form the bed where the potatoes were growing last year. AS I was digging them out I came across quite a big potato from last year. It had grown several long sprouts so I replotted it & put it in the GH till I can put it out in the allotment again. I thought I was pretty through in cleaning the bed but one, quite big at that, got away! (sounds like an angler's tall tale of the one that got away! LOL!)

They're looking very neat and tidy,Balcony. I have first earlies chitting too, in egg boxes in my lobby, enough for daughter and myself. we are going with Pentland Javelin again. We grow these in pots/bags in the greenhouse to ensure they are early potatoes!
The second earlies, Nadine, will be the first to go in the ground...... but haven't bought them yet, must get a move on or Wilkos will have sold out!
For our main crop we have Cara this year.

@TT: I hope there aren't any more "lurking" around! I found last year that potatoes are a LOT MORE HARDIER than most people give them credit for! For example in a bed where I grew Parsnips this year, as well as Beetroot & Lettuces, there were some potatoes that had remained in the ground over our 2 "once in a lifetime" winters that sprouted the following year & produced spuds!
After the first winter I discovered them sprouting & left them to grow on. Unfortunately (?) I didn't get all the potatoes out of the ground & unbeknowest to me a few of them stayed in during the following winter only to sprout again the following spring! They won't be growing again this year though (famous one's last word?) as I'm pretty sure I have got any remaining tubers out!
@Xela: I hadn't thought of growing them in the GH! One always thinks of them as veg to grow in the ground! As I found one 'Rocket' spud still in the ground from last year's sowing & I put it in a pot in the GH perhaps that one potato could be put into a larger pot & left to grow in the GH & that way get a handful of extra early "Rockets!" LOL!

Yesterday I spread compost over the bed where I grew the early potatoes 'Rocket' last year. As I was digging it in this morning I dug up about half a dozen spuds that had escaped me when I harvested them months ago!
