Could be Ivy, I've seen them that thick in Brecon.

wow, i've only seen the weedy end of the spectrum - and mine are pretty weedy even by that standard. how old would an ivy have to be to get this thick??

Very old, they had trunks like Hawthorn. Might not have been common ivy, what's the decorative one for walls?
