I went in for pots for my seedlings and left with these!
On the left, Brugmansia sanguinea (£4.99) and on the right is Passiflora alata (£5.99).

Meanie I love that Passion flower is it hardy ? I bought one last year called white lightening it wasn't hardy and died !

Wow - that was a bit of luck. What beautiful looking plants. I never used to buy things in boxes- the contents never lived up to the pictures on the outside :-((( but if you catch them when they first come in you can get some nice plants more often than not now. Good purchase Meanie!

I thought that they were a very good price Sticki!
You were unlucky Amy - mine is still going strong! Unfortunately, P.alata is tender.
I've had mixed results with plants from this company Poppylover. These were fresh in today though, and the Brug is one that I really wanted so I took a punt...........
27 Feb, 2012
is it from a specialised nursery?
27 Feb, 2012
I've always loved that P/flower Meanie...Hope it and the beautiful Brug do well for you...keep us posted...:>)
27 Feb, 2012
Sticki, just a fairly ordinary one. PatioPlants sell to a lot of GC's.
27 Feb, 2012
Motinot - the Brug is a bit of a risk as it blooms really late in the season.
27 Feb, 2012
i shall look out for those, thanks meanie!
27 Feb, 2012
There is a good range, but be selective. The Strelitzia for example are four years or more away from blooming.
27 Feb, 2012
it was the passionflower i was wondering about ~ can it grow indoors?
27 Feb, 2012
It would go well in a conservatory Sticki..........
28 Feb, 2012
they look good and healthy Meanie, nice price too.. good luck with the Brugmansia a bit tricky that one..
28 Feb, 2012
Thanks meanie. I don't have one of those!
28 Feb, 2012
Thanks Surreylad! The tricky bit about the Brug is protecting it from the frosts as it blooms very late.
Sorry Sticki........
It needs a minimum of 5°c over the winter.
28 Feb, 2012
what would be the maximum?
28 Feb, 2012
I used to grow a few passion flowers in my conservatory at my old house. They did extremely well there, the only drawback with them is they do make a bit of a mess dripping and dropping, and they grow big. Eventually I gave up on my passion flower collection, and I sometimes wish I hadn't. This one is particularly beautiful and a really big grower too. Great couple of bargains you've got there Meanie!
28 Feb, 2012
btw, can you enlighten me on the differences between brugmansia and datura please? :)
28 Feb, 2012
wonderful
28 Feb, 2012
Sticki - as hot as you like!!
I'm thinking of growing this out of the greenhouse Karen. Brugmansia blooms hang and the shrub is much taller, Datura grows a lot lower and the blooms look upwards.........
Thanks Aleyna!

oh ok, maybe in a room inside then??? the biggest problem would be very little direct sun, we have a big window in there but its fairly shady???
28 Feb, 2012
They love light Sticki!
28 Feb, 2012
i saw one in the GC today and it wanted full sun. so i [sadly] left it there.
have to wait till i have a different house and garden ~ maybe in a few years time??
28 Feb, 2012
Is there no sunny spot at all for one of the hardy ones Sticki?
28 Feb, 2012
well it depends on how many hours of sun they need really?
i dont consider any of my garden to have a sunny spot. but we do get a bit of sun at times.
28 Feb, 2012
P.caerulea is cheap enough - give one a go. If it works out, try others!
28 Feb, 2012
thanks Meanie, I shall give it a go!
im hoping it will give me a few photos!!!
28 Feb, 2012
One single Passion flower will give you lots of photos!!!
28 Feb, 2012
thats fine with me!!!
28 Feb, 2012
Thing is that Passiflora are climbers, so they may seek out the light anyway..........
28 Feb, 2012
i have a fence that does face south ~ its just that its shaded by trees so only gets a couple of hours of sun. thats probably my best bet!?
unless i let it climb up the stays for the electric post in the garden!!!!! not sure how i could get a photo up there though!!!!!!
28 Feb, 2012
South facing fence is ideal..........
29 Feb, 2012
sorted!!! thanks meanie!
29 Feb, 2012
You've bought one?
29 Feb, 2012
maybe at the weekend ~ 20% off at the GC
29 Feb, 2012
Ahhhhh - you'll have somewhere to keep it on frosty nights?
29 Feb, 2012
they have it outside at the GC, i dont think there is even any protection over it.
but it could go in the garage if needed or the plastic mini greenhouse?
29 Feb, 2012
"they have it outside at the GC, i dont think there is even any protection over it."
Good enough! Should be hardy enough then.
29 Feb, 2012
thats what im hoping, and this GC has a 5 year guarantee on plants.
29 Feb, 2012
Good deal then!
29 Feb, 2012
no so bad!! the one i saw was a white one.
29 Feb, 2012
White lightning?
29 Feb, 2012
No I don't think it was, would it be Ellen someone?
29 Feb, 2012
Great buys! I guess you're going to have barrels of passion fruits soon.
1 Mar, 2012
Could it be Constance Elliot Sticki?
A bumper harvest is certain with the UK climate Delonix!!!
1 Mar, 2012
i think it was but just found a smaller plant in wilkinsons for £2.78 ~ a cearulea. worth a try for that money i thought.
1 Mar, 2012
Constance elliot is a P.cearulea variety, so apart from the colour it will be the same.
1 Mar, 2012
ah, i see, the leaves looked quite different though??
1 Mar, 2012
Maybe it wasn't Constance Elliot that you were looking at then. It was just a guess on my part.............
1 Mar, 2012
Maybe I will call in tomorrow and check, it's about 3 foot tall.
1 Mar, 2012
have you seen the passiflora 'incense' Meanie, i love it, it's pure purple, it's a cross of P. incarnata and P. cincinnata..
1 Mar, 2012
If they were being sold around here at that size for that money Sticki, they would all be gone tomorrow!
Surreylad - that is stunning!
1 Mar, 2012
The three foot tall one costs more, it's in the GC.
1 Mar, 2012
Ah - about fifty quid then in our local "very expensive garden centre"!!! I'm not joking either!
1 Mar, 2012
I think it was about £11 ?? But then the 20% off?!
1 Mar, 2012
I'm sure it is...
1 Mar, 2012
I hope so HB!
The Brug blooms very late in the season (as long as the frosts don't get it first) and the Passiflora likes a fair bit of warmth.
But they are two plants that I really wanted!
