They're pretty easy to grow and bloom...they appear to thrive on neglect here.

Need love here to get through the winter, as they're biennial in our climate.

Love these, Meanie. E.Candicans (Fastuosum) is perennial, and will flower more than once unlike many Echiums, I kept one for 5 years but it got too large for the greenhouse so I have 2 new babies this year, in bud so flowers soon I hope :o)

You give me hope PA. Seeds recently germinated, so 2013 should be just the start if I'm lucky!!

Yes should get some flowers next year I would think.
I've had 7 E. pinniana make it through the winter so hoping for good things soon.

Yes, like Planthoholic says, this is a very long-lived perennial plant. I know of plants in the San Francisco Bay which have been around more than 30 years (that I'm aware of...they could be much older).

Were yours in your poly-tunnel Sandra, or outdoors?

Pleased to hear that Sandra, I lost all mine last year and really missed them, I hope they all flower I have had them take 2 years to flower they make taller spikes then but I'm getting impatient :o)

thanks Plantoholic...i have pininana that have survived ad flowered outside over the years Meanie...they are a bit hit and miss though...there are 4 that have survived this winter outside which might flower this year. i have had some in the tunnel too but they are to small to flower this year. i do know of Maderia thriving at my friends nursery so i will have to give it a go..good luck with your seedlings..:-)

In the bay area,once they root..they never need to watered again. And,they can get that deep rooted in only a few months.
