My beautiful Cotinus is back.. :)))

Gosh - that's early! My one is still bare. They are beautiful, and the colour changes right through to October.

This is my Cotinus Katarina...in my little yard..Not the big new garden I am playing in.

My yard is perfectly south facing Sheila, that brick wall holds heat...................I hope, cause i just planted a lot out there.

Now THAT's what I call a proper, vibrant cotinus colour! Fred is bravely putting out tiny leaves from his poor little 2" stem, but they're not this gorgeous, rich red, which is what I was hoping for, but a sad, pale purplish green. Let's hope it's because he's putting all his strength into growing and not into pigments and that he'll colour up later. I think I shall have to come a-calling with a sharp knife, a polythene bag and some hormone rooting powder........;o)))

I will look up how to do it G..Also if I get seed This year I will try to germinate some.

If it has any branches growing along the ground, cuttings can be taken by "layering". I'll have a go, Gattina, just for you!

No low branches here Sheila..Just taken Three small softwood cuttings in a howling wind...Back inside well watered, on a cool window sill covered with a plastic bottle...Fingers crossed.

What pure gold Goys you are! Braving howling winds and the unknown perils of layering to propagate Cotinus for me. I'll swap you for some warm rosemary foccaccia (bit difficult to make with one's fingers crossed)!
