This is for Teddygirl, on questions, to illustrate what can be done to an Acer Palmatum while dormant. Early days and fingers crossed.

Yeah Suzy I tried collecting face pots after this was a given. But got to four and couldn't find anymore in my price range.
Teddy Girl best time to prune Acer is in the autumn after leaf fall and dig up then and take a off a bit the root and and pot up. After that try and keep it trimmed in its pot. Mine got up to a straggly 4foot. You can trim by craftily removing the grow tip just as the tip bud opens. That way no bleeding. Keeps the leaves smaller and the leaf nodes closer. I let mine go up as I intended to cut it back and try and Bonsai it. I knew a very reserved lady who had the most amazing compact leaved Acers in huge pots. Never let go any of her secrets out. She was always afraid of someone coming and stealing them I think.

Very interesting, I have never tried bonsai-ing! Each time I see your face pot I think how attractive it is :)

Hi Linda I thought that too. It was the only unbroken background I could think of.
