A rare visit from a thrush

Puffed up against the cold. Ate 3 worms found under leaves, very quickly and stood there digesting them. Then flew away. A welcome winter visitor.

isn't it thrushes that have stone "anvils" for crushing snail shells on? seems to ring a bit of a bell

Seems like thrushes may be on the up, Dorcas. I have had one in my garden over the last week and when I walked down the lane to the woods I saw three together. I was so pleased to see them :)
