I see you finally got round to washing your hands, then....... I've got dreadful "Gardeners' fingernails" at the moment. Most of me is as gorgeous as ever, but the hands are a real giveaway.

9 Jul, 2012

I always remember to put on a pair of rubber gloves - after I've got my hands thoroughly muddy first!

9 Jul, 2012

I usually find myself up to my elbows in mud and weeds just before the 'phone rings.

9 Jul, 2012

I always get an itchy nose.

10 Jul, 2012

lol reminds me of something I read in a cookery book - always keep a plastic bag beside you so you can slip your hand into it if someone rings up while you're baking. like that's going to happen often!

10 Jul, 2012

But if it IS going to happen, it'll be then. Sure as eggs is eggs. Actually, that isn't 100% true - the caller usually waits until I'm making scrambled eggs or a bechamel sauce which HAS to be stirred continuously or it'll go lumpy, and OH has just wandered up the garden to the compost heap and is out of hearing................

10 Jul, 2012

lol. That's what answerphones are for. the instinct to rush for the phone as soon is it rings is very strong, but there are times when I ignore the ring - if it's important they'll leave a message or ring back, if they do neither it can't be important!

10 Jul, 2012

I remember when if phone rang after 10pm it was sure to be Dreadful News a death in the family at the very least!

10 Jul, 2012

We not only forget to switch the darned thing on, what is worse, we forget to switch it off again, and after 2 rings callers get this bright and garrulous Italian lady chirruping on about leaving name and number. Yes, we CAN re-set it, but each time we get a power cut (a very frequent occurrence here) it loses all our messages, wipes out my elegant and friendly Italian/English greeting and automatically reverts to factory settings. Such a pain!

10 Jul, 2012

lol it still does to me, Pim! or not-very-good news, at least. That's the gist of the opening line of Ben Elton's Blast From the Past - no one ever rings with good news at 2am!

that sounds a pain, Gattina. would a UK one work on Italian voltae? it'd still need to be rest after power cuts, unless it had a battery backup.

I don't have an asnwerphone, I use the BT message thing, and the only inidcation of a message being left is when I get an interrupted dial tone when I pick up the receiver. Annoying, as often I don't have a need to phone anyone on the landline for a week on end. I bought a phone with answerphone, but I can't use it cos it needs to be plugged in, and there's no convenient socket, so I need to get one installed, sigh

10 Jul, 2012

I think it'd involve an awful lot of plug adaptors, Fran. Also, it's a cordless phone we've got, and getting an English handset would create more problems than it solves. Nice idea, though.

10 Jul, 2012

lol there's always some snag!

11 Jul, 2012

Loving your new avatar Gattina! Gorgeous :)))

11 Jul, 2012

Thank you, Babe! Me when I was about a year old, making daisy chains in my Nana's garden. Ever the gardener!
