Acers On a wet July Morning

Most are but they still surprise me, all of a sudden one or two will look a bit jaded as they are not sheltered, I think that's the nature of Acer's

I have a similar backdrop to you [woodland] but thats where the similarity ends!! do you think acers and hostas are happier in pots?

I'm not sure to be honest, when I started a collection of Acers about 20 years ago they were quite small so I kept them in pots, it kind of stuck plus in areas of the garden there is 6 inches of chalk-top soil which the Acers do not like. The hostas do OK, I tend to move them around every year. I have a few plants in the ground such as a pittosporum, weigela and choicers

well it certainly doesnt seem to have done yours any harm!! we have slightly acidic soil [luckily] so they are happy enough here, on the whole!!!
