Creeping Thyme - New plant

Is this suitable for GoYp. Rockery Ideas ?

Love thyme. Mine is all quite tall, though - I love the idea of a patch of low plants in the patio.

Thank you both...a rockery idea? why not. I have this thyme planted at the base of steps leading up to my gravel seating area. There was a gap between the lawn and steps so I decided to make something of it!

This is just the sort of planting I was introduced to at Panbride House - it has stayed at the back of my mind ever since.

They had a lovely little alpine garden - not a rockery, just a "path" of lovely pavers , like York stone, with a selection of sedums and other low-growing plants in between. I had never seen that done before. I should love to have something like that.

I have thymes in my rockery areas, but perhaps smaller than this, However, I'll include it in GoYpedia as an idea. Okay for larger scale projects. :o)

It's only 5X25 cm TT...fine for a rockery. Melchi...where is Panbride House please? Sounds lovely!

Sorry Karensusan - I am obviously mixing up my threads!!!! It is in Carnoustie, in Angus! And it is lovely! When my children were small, we rented the gate lodge there as a holiday cottage. We had wonderful holidays there for 5 consecutive years, until we - literally - outgrew it. The whole estate now belongs to Liz McColgan, and is a sports centre. From the aerial photographs, I can see that a lot of the garden has gone. We all have happy and abiding memories of it!

This is lovely Karen. I planted this about 3 weeks ago - it seems to be coping with the rain well!!

No Melchi, it is me that got completely befuzzled. Of course!!!! So sorry! When you said Panbride house and planting, I assumed you were referring to a stately home somewhere and I thought...oh, that must be near hear with a name like that! What am I like? What a simpleton!! My brain is somewhere in the Rocky Mountains this summer! lol :D

Scottish, it is gorgeous, the bees were all over it. The thyme that is already planted there was needing to be 'supplemented' so I bought four little plants. They never thrive there really ...too damp. So this time, i poured grit all over the area I planted them in...time will tell!

No probs, Karen!! I have been dancing round and round different threads and comments the last few days and I am getting pretty confused myself!

Love them,have them in every colour, edging the paths, the very dark ones are my favourite, lost the white in the winter,buy a new one every time we visit a GC.....

Yes, they need replacing often don't they A...but that's ok, they're not expensive. I think these were £1.75 each.

Yes that is what we pay.....

My creeping thyme is completely different! Very tiny leaves, white flowers. It likes to creep out of the Garden into the gravel path. Whole sections die but it creeps beyond that spot, and I just let it go. It needs watering daily to really thrive in the hot sun, where it seems to prefer to grow. More water = more creeping thyme! I first saw it in Capri, under an arbor where it had filtered sunlight. Mine survives freezing in winter.
