9 Jul, 2012

9 Jul, 2012

nothing much left San, apart from hanging baskets

9 Jul, 2012

thats so sad, i do hope things get better soon for you, but still the hard job of getting things back to normal, wish we all lived closer and could all chip in x

9 Jul, 2012

All my sympathies Yorkshire , it's so frustrating and annoying when we've looked forward to seeing our gardens after all these months, we may have a great late summer yet....:)))

9 Jul, 2012

nice thought San thanks, thanks Janey

9 Jul, 2012

I sympathise Val. I am not far behind you on the wash out stakes and every thing is on such a large scale here. So much money wasted. Like you I feel sick. Jx

9 Jul, 2012

I'm not buying any more plants Jane, waste of money and time,

9 Jul, 2012

I expect I will next year, but not this. I'm going to try and sow a lot next year to try and save some dosh. Jx

9 Jul, 2012

thats a good idea, I think I might just do the same,

9 Jul, 2012

Honestly Val. I recon I spent several hundred on plants this year, we are still creating the garden and there is so much of it. I'm not wasting all that money again, so will grow everything from seed (but I bet I don't grow everything) lol. I'm a buggar for going down to the gc and just buying this and then that and oh look, I've spent another £50! Hey ho. Jx

9 Jul, 2012

I should add, another £50 I didn't have spare!!!

9 Jul, 2012

gosh that is a lot of money to spend Jane, The last place I want to go to right now is a GC, I am an old misery guts,

9 Jul, 2012

Its usually us that gets more rain than most.

9 Jul, 2012

Every time I open the front door, I see the soggy remains of several expensive plants, plus all my bedding plants. If we have a bit of a late summer, I might get a half decent show, but in the meanwhile, I am looking at the remains of another 50 quid. Jx

9 Jul, 2012

Oh dear Yorkie, I do feel for you, its been better here today still only like springtime though, so lets pray its heading your way and will brighten up for you as well....

9 Jul, 2012

When the rabbits wrecked my troughs and pots I decided not to spend lots the next year so biennials and annuals wy va le had all seeds 50p a packet last autumn. I,m pleased with most of it, especially the double petunias, sadly even though they haven,t been directly in the rain three out of my four new guinea buzy lizzies are getting grey mould, and at £10 I thought them expensive
Its different but the old traditional french marigolds, antirrhinums etc seem to stand even the hailstones.

Yorkie I,m grieved for you and everyone who has suffered so badly. Big hug. (((((((o)))))))) one question do we next year plan for drought.....or flooods.......

9 Jul, 2012

According to our forecast winter is arriving on Wed...

9 Jul, 2012

How will we know the difference - will the rain be colder?

9 Jul, 2012

Oh lord, you gotta laugh - or do what i did tonight and stuff my self stupid with gooseberry crumble and vanilla custard! Won't help the garden, but sure as heck made me feel better (and fatter)! :-))

9 Jul, 2012

Oh Yorkshire, it must be heartbreaking. I am so sorry things are so bad for so many of you. Although lots of plants haven't done as well as they might, we have had it easy here (not so good inland). It's hard to believe that these conditions have gone on for so long.

Good for you, Jane! (I rather think I would have done the same thing)

9 Jul, 2012

So sorry Val I hope you see some improvement soon in the meantime hugs all round to you OOOOO :o)

9 Jul, 2012

Yes indeed! We are all fed up but you have had a rotten few days and I hope that the worst is over - surely there can't be much rain left up there!

9 Jul, 2012

We had a real summer meal.......
Lamb casserole wth mashed potaties cabbage and carrots.....

Did follow it with strawberries and oh,s favorite condensed milk.....lovely......
Raining now bye the way.......

10 Jul, 2012

Not a rotton few days, Wildrose, nearly 2 solid months. :-(

10 Jul, 2012

I was thinking this morning of that '60s song. "down came the rain". Was quite funny, mitch somebody?

10 Jul, 2012

Or 'It's raining men', which thankfully it isn't. Or 'Singing in the rain', which I most definately am not. Or even 'April showers' More like June and July deluges. Does any one remember the Flanders and Swann song about the months of the year.
Look I found it. Very funny and soooooo apt. Yorkshire, this is especially for you, to cheer you up. x

A Song of the Weather

January brings the snow,
Makes your feet and fingers glow.

February's ice and sleet
Freeze the toes tight off your feet.

Welcome March with wintry wind
Would thou wert not so unkind!

April brings the sweet spring showers,
On and on for hours and hours.

Farmers fear unkindly May
Frost by night and hail by day.

June just rains and never stops
Thirty days and spoils the crops.

In July the sun is hot.
Is it shining? No, it's not.

August, cold and dank and wet,
Brings more rain than any yet.

Bleak September's mist and mud
Is enough to chill the blood.

Then October adds a gale,
Wind and slush and rain and hail.

Dark November brings the fog
Should not do it to a dog.

Freezing wet December, then
Bloody January again!

January brings the snow

Brilliant!. ..........and so apt

Didn't they do mud mud glorious mud as well.....sorry Yorkie. :0)

10 Jul, 2012

Oh yes so they did. Better not mention that one, might be a step too far for Yorkie. Jx

10 Jul, 2012

What about 'Why does it always rain on me?' by Travis. Seems to fit the bill very nicely!

I love the Flanders and Swann lyrics, I hadn't heard that version before.

10 Jul, 2012

It's taken from their first album 'At the Drop of a Hat'

10 Jul, 2012

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned 'Raindrops Are Falling On My Head' by Sasha Distell

Or 'Flowers In The Rain' by The Move.

Or are you all younger than me?

10 Jul, 2012

No!!!

10 Jul, 2012

Probably..................................... not!! Jx

11 Jul, 2012

thanks you barmy lot, at least you have managed to give me a laugh this morning, away all day yesterday so missed your comments,

11 Jul, 2012

how about singing in the rain

11 Jul, 2012

Had that one slow coach :-))

11 Jul, 2012

sorry Jane, I am stupid, I loved your song by the way, great, how is your weather, the sun has shone since this morning, OH did the front lawns and I did the edges and the flower border, the front garden looks lovely, hoping the gardener will come today and start on the back, a big clean up needed, how sad the great yorkshire show was cancelled last night, first time weather has stopped it in 150 years, and apparently the leeds festival has or was cancelled too,

11 Jul, 2012

Oh Val, sun shining one minute and throwing it down the next. Nothing dry outside and now it's windy to boot.
I could cry for them all at The Great Yorkshire. All that effort, months of planning etc etc.
Take a piccie of your front garden to cheer us all up. Big hug Jx

11 Jul, 2012

bloody rain, poor you, its windy but very nice, I will take a pic later.
