I thought it was Astilbe too..looking brilliant

It's about 1.5m high now, so much taller than Astilbe. It's lovely though isn't it. A great plant for pondside.

Very striking....

Used to grow this, fantastic, and in dryer soil, it does not get so big.

Lovely, and such a good height!

I don't generally go a bundle on pink, but I'd make a definite exception for this beauty!

:) Thanks Fran!

lol I was force-fed pink as a kid, put me off it for life. Blue has been my very favourite colour for as long as I can remember, but "you can't have blue, that's for boys", so I was forced to have 'orrible pink instead cos I was only a girl. You won't find a scrap of anytihng pink in my home or wardrobe; I even tend to skip over pink flowers, with the possible exception of roses of the right shade of pink. And this lovely plant is exactly the right shade ofp pink, too.

I think that is beautiful, does it just like moist soil Karen?

26 Jul, 2012

Yes Annie, I think it has to have moisture..I think you can even use it as a marginal, but check that out, as I'm not sure.

It will grow in ordinary soil, Annella, if given a decent amount of water (I grew them commercially in soil) but will not thrive to the same extent as in moist soil.

Thanks for clarifying Vincent :D IF we ever get any dry weather I shall give it a drink!

We can only hope. I am assuming it is doing well everywhere this year.

Hi Chino...the name is at the top..Filipendula rubra Venusta. A bog/marginal plant growing to about 1.6m tall. The foliage is very beautiful too.

30 Jul, 2012

Hi Karensusan. So as a bog plant it needs to have its roots wet at all times. Will it survive in a large pot with a deep saucer so I can keep the roots moist.
Silly me I didn't notice the name at the top.

I'm not sure Chino....but my common sense says yes as long as you remember to always keep it moist!

Thanks, that was my common sense thought too. Only thing is ,will it survive the winter in the pot????? I'm going to take the chance.
