Janey / Carole - No I don't think they do eat them I've never seen the berries disappear perhaps they are poisonous !

If this is like the actaea I have they are poisonous. beautiful but not edible. Check out my pic for my comment on the symptoms of consumption of these berries. check out the white actaea ... white berries with a black spot...common name "doll's eyes"...also poisonous.
