It was bred by Bob Brown - he won't say why he called it that! Maybe he was trying to get white flowers, or something.

...yes, or accidentally crossed the wrong plants....it's bound to be something like that!

I saw this variety in an open garden once ... everyone who read the label had a huge smile on their face! ... :o)

I do like this one, does it make a good round clump B?

I believe it send out 'tendrils'. I'll have to look in the Cgf catalogue and see what Bob says about it.

Thanks that would be helpful, have you sorted your open days for next year B?
12 Sep, 2012
Yes - we filled in the forms online last night. I rather reluctantly agreed to open on one of the anniversary w/end days as well as our normal two Thursdays. I'm not opening on the Sunday - I go to Church and there wold be too much of a rush on that day.

Oh B you are good......opening on the Anniversary days, and going to church lol we are just doing two this time instead of four, but opening for longer, and also offering private viewings........

I'm having BIG doubts about that Saturday - supposing the WI don't want to give up a third afternoon to do teas? Eeek! I decided I couldn't handle 'by appointment' visits, mostly because we have no parking except by borrowing the field opposite, which is used by the farmer. I can't expect him to clear it out too many times.

Just seen this Barbara (lovely!) and looked it up in the Cotswold Garden Flowers catalogue . . . Bob says "I will not tell you how it got its name". Typical :)
We're just back from Cornwall where we visited an ngs garden almost next door to us in West Pentire (near Crantock, north coast). Well worth a visit if you can make it (the owner of "Arundell" is very happy with appointments). x

Well, I still find trips in the car rather too much for me - but I'll make a note! Thanks. :-))
Yes, I really enjoy Bob's catalogue - for his comments, as well as drooling over the plants! ;-)

Earlier this year I joined the Hardy Plant Society simply because I saw that Bob was giving a talk to members near me . . . very entertaining as you can imagine :))

Yes, I can. Seaburngirl had him at her HPS meeting last year and said the same! Did you buy any plants? I gather that he usually takes some along.
27 Sep, 2012
Yes - and I was able to pre-order, so he brought me some Phlox 'David' and the lovely Campanula 'lactiflora'. Btw, sorry to hear you're still not as strong as you'd like, so good for you to open your garden again this year :)

Well - I know it'll be hard work, but it's months away, so I'm hoping that my chest will have healed well before that. There are still garden tasks I simply can't do - like leaf-raking and using the heavier shears.
29 Sep, 2012
I can't do heavy tasks either . . . I'm sure we're both SO grateful for our kind husbands!

Hmmm...he does help sometimes, but I think you know that I have a gardener for 2 hours a week - she's such a help, and does all sorts of things that I still can't handle. :-)
