This is the sort of bush I like most of all in the winter.

Katarina - loved by the birds too :))

Lovely, and Gosh, Look! No prickles! What kind of holly is it, Scottish? It almost looks like laurel in this photo. I can't remember seeing holly at all in this part of the world. Sad.

Thanks Gattina - it is Ilex J C Van Tol. It's great that it isn't prickly. Muched loved by the birds - provides cover for them too. It's a shame there is no holly in those parts. Perhaps you could be the first :)

If there's no holly growing here, it's probably because it won't, Scottish! I doubt it's because it's too cold - maybe the very hot, dry summers don't suit holly too well.
Bik, I shouldn't talk too loudly about the hot weather in Greece - the UK and northern Italy have just been told that we are about to suffer the worst winter on record! Make the most of it while you can - you'll probably get it eventually: I'm absolutely certain Thrace gets snow in winter, doesn't it? We were promised a hard frost last night, but got heavy rain and mist instead, but this afternoon, driving home, we got horizontal sleet. :o(

You are probably right Gattina - such a shame. Still we can't have it all can we :)
Freezing cold here - the frost on the ground is resembling snow - it's to be snowing here over the weekend apparently!!
Bik - I agree with Gattina - make the most of it :)

The forecast was for a very hard frost here today, but in the event, it is less frosty than yesterday morning thank goodness. I have a lot of work to do in the garden! Lovely holly Scottish. I read recently that Holly will grow in any soil except very wet Gattina, so you could give it a try if you wanted to. :) And hollies are not all fully hardy by any means, so they must surely grow in warmer places as well. ...just guessing!

Ah, KS, but do they grow in colder ones? Don't forget that up here in the Appennines, we get lower temperatures and fiercer winters than even the UK!!!!!

True! :) I've no idea.....as you say, if they're not there it may well be because they can't hack it!
