My Green Man has been hung at last

I have been waiting for a couple of years to get my Green Man on a wall, but could not decide where to put him. On Sunday my OH suddenly said that he was going to put him up, so I had better quickly decide. This spot is right next to our sunporch, so we can see it from inside the house. When the Wisteria Black Dragon (planted last year), gets bigger, I will train a couple of branches to grow around the Green Man ....actually I think he is supposed to be the God Neptune. I bought him when I lived in England in the late 1990s, & I think he is 'mighty handsome'. Not practical though, as cannot plant anything in him ....the bottom is open about half an inch & the potting mix is washed out everytime I water it ...I had a variegated ivy in it once but it died!

I haven't heard of J cloth Annella (pretty name). I will have to investigate that, as I did like the variegated ivy growing out of the top of his head ...maybe one of the trailing succulents would look good too.
Thank you HB. He does have a nice face. The photo is not showing his true colour ...it is more green .....a medium green which has faded a bit over the years with weathering. Maybe a sizzling pink trailing Verbena might look great .....or mixed trailing Lobelia? If I can find something to hold soil in, but allow water through, I will definitely pop a plant in there.

Just thought .....the name J cloth rings a bell from my years living in England. Is that a cloth used for washing dishes & moping up spills? If so, we do have it in NZ, but it is called Chux cloth ( because it is disposable). I can see how a Chux cloth could work & now I feel all enthusiastic. I have a packet of Chux cloth in my under sink cupboard! Annella, please let me know if J cloth is the same.

Thanks Annella. Another project to add to the list.

It should work if you line the inside with one whole cloth. Let us know how you get on :o))

I always thought my avatar was the west wind but now think he may be a green man (he is green coloured).

Lol C. Your avatar does look like the west wind. And my green man does look like images of Neptune. Both handsome, whoever they are. I thought the Green Man had leaves around his face, but might be mistaken on that.

I really like him Dwyllis and he will look good with the Wisteria trailing. You could try putting some J cloth in the bottom to hold the compost in but let water out. Do you call it J cloth there?
