Small yellow flowers do not appear on this cactus until the cactus is 24 years old.
Golden barrel cactus is sometimes referred to as Mother-in-Law's Cushion. Ha ha.
I like this mass planting in arboretum. Although, I have seen them used as a solitary architectural element in some landscapes
A minimum (average) winter temperature of 12°C for this cactus to survive. Native to Mexico.

Yes it does look similar, but the one in my avatar is Notocactus warassii. The spines are more like hairs, and it won't grow that big. It gets beautiful big yellow flowers in the summer :o)
