I like swans, so stately - lol of course they're only stately on the surface, under the water they're paddling like mad

Lovely to see so many swans together. Last time I saw a lot of swans was in Woodbridge Suffolk on the estuary river.

lol I remember years ago, our Scouts were camping in Holland, beside a lake. There were dozens of swans, which the kids used to feed - until the day they all came out of the water and literally chased a kid until he hid in his tent. They're a lot bigger on land than they look on water.

Fran, lol, that must have been very funny. The first country to which I went in 1991 was the Netherlands. I crossed that country and I liked the people very much. I do not know, why English call them stiffed necks (?). That what they complained to me ...:)

I loved Holland, been there a few times, all years ago, so i'm overdue to go back again!

Beiing so flat, easy to walk and to cycle (lol I could cycle then - though had problems with the old bikes we had, you braked by pedalling backwards - went into a stand of nettles once, frantically gripping the right handlebar where the brake should have been)

Amsterdam was so clean, not a speck of rubbish in the streets - was quite a shock to come back to London and look at the rubbish tips in every street.

And I remember the people as being so friendly - and so many of them spoke such good English, it puts us to shame.

Never heard of English calling Ductch people stiff-necked, not polite at all - and certainly not true in the people that I met.

I'd like to go back, but it's getting round to it.

Lol even thought about living there, but given my "thing" about not living in a flood risk area ... that covers most of the country
