My bananas should have been harvested about 3 weeks ago. Many are splitting because they're over-ripe. I finally cut the very tall, very heavy stalk of bananas today. Photo taken Jan. 2, 2013.

I've been so lucky over the years to get my many varieties of bananas to produce good crops.

How long will they continue to produce, D1?

Once the plant produces the bananas you cut the trunk down. Many plants will still be produced from the rhizome, though.
