Amaryllis

Amaryllis

Have been waiting for it to open to take a picture, it should have had a black centre but not on this one, maybe the next one to open will have! It is beautiful nevertheless.

thank you Homebird, yes it is I like this one much better than the pink one. But I am a strong colour person, not too keen on the paler shades. lol.

Thanks Bilbo, the other one is out now and same colour as this one but a bigger flower and much more to it. funny how one is so much bigger than the other. In fact it has three flower spikes on it so it should keep going for longer than this one.

That's a lovely flower! :-)) I had to add it to my favourites as well!
.
I've heard many people say the flower on the box is different to the flower on the plant! I bought mine loose from a Dutch stall in our High Street 12 years ago! They at least turned out true to colour! I've never bought a bowed one! Though the very first one I ever had was given to me by one of my sisters for Christmas 1981. I don't think I've been without a plant or two ever since! Now I have at least 50 pots of them! All my own seedlings as well! They have all flowered now for at least 3 or perhaps 4 years in a row!
.
I seldom get 3 stems of flowers but the first year they flowered I got 2 plants at least with 3 stems on them! I was truly amazed as I thought their first year they would only produce 1 stem with perhaps 2 flowers on each but no, almost all the bulbs flowered the first year & had at least one stem with 4 or 5 blooms on each stem. Astonishing!
. Be sure to feed it when the flowers have died & you'll get more next year, then the next & ...
.
You'll end up like me!!! LOL! :-D)

lol :O) just another bug that bites then Balcony. :O) very addictive. I do not think I shall have that many as I have not got space on window sills to collect too many. Notice I said too many. lol :O)

I stack them in tiers - 2 or 3 rows high. I've even reached as high as 4 tiers in the kitchen windowsill! But the last tier only contained a few small plants in 3" pots.
.
You should see the difference it makes to light levels, in the kitchen especially, when I take them down to the allotment at the end of May!

lol:o) what are you like Balcony :o) but a good idea to keep you busy and happy over the winter months. I can only imagine the light you block out. That would not work for me as I like to sit and watch the birds in the garden and that keeps me amused for hours on end. lol. Great idea though to stack your plants to get pleasure from them at the back end of the year.
