This is the other Brasscattleya pass-along I mentioned under the other photo. This one was the first to bloom, and these are the blooms after they've been on show for a couple of weeks.

they last that long? brilliant! seems unusual for a garden plant to flower that long but the orchids we grow indoors last for a long time too

Yes these blooms have been on show for about 3 weeks now. They have faded a little in that time though. They started out a lovely light pink and have slowly faded to this white, although the throat has stayed a gorgeous purple.

all those combinations of colour sound good to me, changing colours is good too!

They are indeed lovely little Orchids. I've never really grown many Orchids before, but I'm starting to think I might like to add a few more to my tiny collection now.

Yes, I'm not exactly sure where I could put them!!! I think my darling husband would roll his eyes to the heavens.

but they are so beautiful!

You are so right. I'll just use your name as an excuse when I come home with a few Orchids. Sticki told me too!!!! Lol! Well it's after 11.00 pm here and it's definitely sleepy time for me. The rain is still falling softly on the corrugated iron roof, so I know I'll fall asleep quickly tonight. I'll catch up soon.

Gorgeous flowers

What a strange flower it is. And very beautiful. To what family does it belong? Well, Australia is an old continent, many things survived there which are not anymore in the rest of the world.

i think its orchid family kat

Katarina, Sticki is correct. This belongs to the Orchid family. It's a Brassocattleya hybrid, a cross between Brassavola nodosa and Cattleya bowringiana.

It's a show-stopper!
I'm guessing this hybrid is easier to grow than Cattleya...and blooms more often?

This was the first year of blooming for both my pass-along Brassocattleya hybrids, Andy. They've both rewarded me with several blooms which have lasted for ages and ages. The flowers are still on show even now, although looking rather withered and faded.
I have to say both have grown very well with very little attention and care, other than a bit of watering. I would say they're definitely one of the easiest Orchids to grow.

I'm guessing the flowers last a long time like the parent, Cattleya.
