So far one or two have turned out red.

Yes it is an annual. I grew T&M's claret hybrids last year and this is from the seed. Caused a sensation amongst the neighbours last year because in the land of the sunflower here in Hungary they had never seen red ones before.

They never saw red ones before??? hmmm....They are definately beautiful....don't you find they produce many more significant blooms following the initial?

Yes they keep on going all summer to the end of September usually.
