Hi Kat ..
I like the name Tatras ...
does the word have any origin ?
23 Mar, 2013
First historical evidence of this name comes from 999 (Cosmas chronicle). There are three different opinions - the name comes from Ukrainian (Slavic) word "toltry" which means "grit". Another opinion is that it comes from old Greek word "terdrum", which means "peak, spike" - Christianity to Slovakia was brought in the 9th century by Greek preachers. The third theory - the least provable - is, that the word Tatry comes from Basque "tutur" and has the same meaning as Greek word...;-)

I could understand Tetras
not Tatras.
Tetras means FOUR PIKS one next to another in any shape/ :)

Tatra-Tetras, yes, sounds similar, though there are much more peaks in our mountains then four...
And what about terdrum, I think I remember that correctly...does it sound like something similar in Greek? ;-)
