Thanks for your comment Feverfew and Scottish. Soon other peonies will be in bloom as well.

My favourite time :) I had to bite the bullet and move one yesterday. It was getting engulfed by other plants - it suffered a bit last year by minor flooding and hasn't produced any flower buds either. It's in a better spot now and figuered it was worth the risk!

Good luck Scottish with that. Hopefully it will like its new location better. I have several that are crowded by other plants but I think I will relocate the "other" plants first. I read somewhere that peonies do not like to be tranplanted... they take years to get established. I do not know if it is true or not. Did you transplant some before?

It's a myth Klahanie - if they are flowering plants - you need to ensure that you plant at exactly the same level as the ground they were previously in. I've 2 budding up nicely that were moved at the end of summer last year.
The correct time is autumn when they are dormant but I never do things at the right time ;)
I've a couple that don't flower - they came from pieces of tubers taken from my brothers garden - I will lift them in the autumn, move them but plant them a bit shallower.
