Yes Michaela, I cannot grow much, they eat everything. Especially the young ones.

As much as I admire them, and they are magnificent. I used to have the 'Muntjacs' coming into my garden, they started by hanging out way down in the field, then eventually found their way in my garden and ate a lot of my roses and others plants....it was beginning to depress me a bit, I have resolved the problem now, they have not come in for over a year, although they still hangout in the field.

A lovely photo but I am sure they can be a problem too.

They are definitely a problem in the garden Wildrose.

What did you do to resolve the problem Michaella?

I think she posted at one time that she fenced her property. I answered for her as I do not know if she still follows this thread. She can correct me if I am wrong.

It takes some big fencing to keep deer out I believe, as they can jump so high!

They say the fence should be at least 7 feet as they can jump 6 feet without much effort. I certainly do not want to put any fencing up. We have 8 acres and most of our neighbours do not have fences either ...so deer has a good life here. I do not grow vegetables but some people do and they put a fence around that area. There are some pretty plants that deer does not favour only nibbles on . The young deer would eat anything including the young leaves of the poisonous plants. I cannot grow roses freely(their favorite food). I have to protect them. I have several motion activated sprinkles to distract them. They work only partially. I also let plants to grow very tall that deer only eats the bottom and top is there for me to admire.

Interesting Klahanie that the deers favourite food is roses. I didn't know that. We have a park at Tatton in Cheshire, where the RHS have a show in July each year. The deer run wild there, all the young trees have to be protected with wire cages supported by wooden posts. Lovely photo.

Thank you Alan. I protect my newly planted trees with wire casing for several years.
