Hi Lynda123 yes we did it from scratch and started with 2 fish which bred and after giving some away we have still got about 30 left, some are nearly a foot in length and they've all got very large tails. We still need to get rid of some more as its difficult to keep the water clear with so many. Thank- you for your comment, Roy.

Roy, are you still having problems keeping your water clear?! We've just found a great trial and error solution which helps to keep ours clear..

Well we've swapped to a pressure filter and pump by oase and it helped a little. However our neighbour who has the same clarity problems suggested buying a bag of watercress on stems (just look in the bag and see if they are just leaves or stems) and place them on the waterfall weighted down with a flat stone I.e a piece of slate etc. the watercress loves to grow in the fast moving water and as it grows it uses up excess nutrients and holds any dirt particles in its roots. We planted ours in February not expecting much and it's doing a great job. It just needs a little thinning out every now and then and providing you wash the top leaves you can eat them. It regrows within a few days providing that you don't take the whole plant away. As well as this I've also bought some more marginal plants that don't get tall but spread across the the surface to help do the same job. At the same time providing the fish with shade. Finally I added two to three bunches of elodea only to the shallow area to let it establish and it's all doing a great job!however the watercress works very well on its own! Hope this helps! Elodea is Canadian pond weed that's an oxygenating plant for the pond, you can buy it in bunches and you just drop them in and it should settle on the sediment in the pond and grow. And yeah from sainsburys £1 a bag and just sift through and fine some good ones on stems and some might even have roots on growing. Then just put it on the waterfall and away it should grow! It might take a little while to grow but it really does work!
I also planted some of mine in a small sponge with a scourer on. After removing the scourer I slit the sponge and just shoved the cress in and placed a stone on to hold it in place!

Dandan I've bought some nice organic watercress from Waitrose with big long stalks and placed it in the cascade , I've put a picture on what do you think ? If it does take it will give a nice natural look thank-you for your help, Roy.
