Think this will be the last of this rose for this year, it has done much better than expected after a very slow start.

Hot chocolate had a spurt then nothing Summer Song was ok earlier on but nothing to shout about since. Gertie had a second flush here and has just about finished now. The Pilgrim got blackspot and looked a terrible mess but it has recovered and is showing a lovely display at the minute. Hoping for a better spring and some rain to get the borders going next year. Having a big clear up at the minute, chopping and clearing branches on one of the pine trees, it has started to lean badly so thought if I chopped it down a bit it might help it stay upright, don't want to lose it. It is amazing how much light I have let into the border where it is.

That's the thing about trees isn't it? I want to plant one or two in the new garden, but I shall be quite cautious about which ones I choose. The Birches are good that way, and some of the pines...like the Himalayan white pine...are very 'loose' and wouldn't block out too much light I think. But any conifer takes up a lot of ground space and needs space around it to be appreciated doesn't it....except perhaps Scots Pine, which has all it's needles at the top.
