Flowering Cactus

Flowering Cactus

This little plant has been sitting in my conservatory all summer looking sad and dejected I was just on the point of sending it to the compost bin when I noticed little buds appearing at the tips of the leaves,so pleased i didnt bin it, as just look at it now ;0))

Brilliant plant at this time of year, I used to have one but forgot it was in the garden hanging in its basket one summer and lost it to the cold and wet.

Lovely plant. Now you know not to throw it out next summer when it's looking a bit dull. The commonest time for them to drop their buds is when you buy them in full bud from the shops & take them home, the contrast of different temps & places is just too much, & also they don't get looked after properly in the shops , just bought in from the nurseries( another move) & dumped anywhere. Sometimes you get lucky buying them that way & sometimes you don't. A risk to consider when buying those last minute Xmas prezzies!

Lovely, aren't they? I have 4 small plants in flower in our living room; two are white & pink & two are dark red. I used to have a white one but it seems to have disappeared.

I have been growing them at home for the last 12 years - in fact ever since we moved into this flat! I got mine as leaf cuttings from the supermarket where my wife works. Back then they didn't sell them in clear, plastic sleeves like they do now & it was easy to find leaf pads that had been knocked off on the plant stand. As I knew they root very easily I picked up a few & brought them home to root & I've never been without them ever since!

I did the same with Easter Cactus as well & still have several plants since then! Again they root so easily!
