On a cold day , heading to street market.
The poinsettia is native to Mexico and is called here "Noche Buena" (Christmas eve)
In Spain it is associated with Easter.

I know what you mean Bathgate. I cannot grow one in the pot either.
Do they sell them in grocery stores at Christmas time in
Britain, Jane?

Yes, they do, by the million & some are cream coloured. I have never seen a fully grown one , so thanks for this pic.
Every thing seems to be brightly coloured & upbeat in Mexico.

Feverfew, they do in Canada as well....they sometime spray them with golden flakes and put red bows on them.
This little town is considered an Artist community and it tend to attract the Artist from all over the world. We 'll have a large artist fair here next week which will be displaying their wares from all over the Mexico.
The houses are very colourful and lots of murals around.
The flora is amazing.

Klahanie:
Poinsettia trees can grow to 30ft (10m) tall. There's trees here in San Diego this tall (and other parts of coastal California). The larger ones are the most spectacular in bloom. They're blooming here, also.
You beat me to posting a photo of the Poinsettia first. I was just thinking of taking some photos of some just yesterday. lol! :>)
I see one off the freeway in someone's back yard which is about three times the size of this tree. I need to get a photo (it would be very difficult because I have to stop along the side of the freeway, which is very dangerous!).

These sell everywhere in NY - Walmart, Home Depot, garden centers and even sidewalk street vendors in the city. I've seen some new blush colored ones that are very nice - somewhere between the red and white but not pink, more like cream colored with reddish streaks.

I a looking forward to see some really huge ones Delonix.
They are spectacular shrubs or trees.
It is the time of the year for them . I used to buy lots of potted poinsettias Bathgate, but by February they were all dead.

They do grow just like this one in the photo here. Many are in people's private yards...and sometimes it very difficult to get good photos.
Poinsettia is native to Mexico; however, we have the Ecke Poinsettia Ranch in Encinitas - San Diego County. It's the world largest and leading in genetics and hybridizing greenhouses for Poinsettia. There's fields of Poinsettia at this location, also. From what I've read there used to more acreage of the Poinsettias. This was before urbanization in that area.

It rather puts to shame the ones we buy to cheer up the Christmas windows!! It is gorgeous!!

It is a popular landscape plant Wildrose. Sometime in early spring they seem to cut it down to the ground. Altough not so grand, the little plants on the window sills are cheerful too. Thank you for your comment.

How do you do, Klahanie :-)

:-) Hello Katarina, xoxo

Klahanie:
It's a common practice to cut Poinsettia trees/shrubs back after they bloom. It will grow faster and fuller after cut back.

Wow, I had no idea they can get so big. Mine usually dry up to a crisp right after Christmas.
