Had enough now :(

My goodness Grandmage looks underwater like my sons garden, it s great you found some treasures , your garden looks lovely other wise turned out nice and mature since the altration.

I too live in the London area Grandmage, my garden is also flat and there has never been any water on the surface, even when is raining. The soil is just wet.
You must check what is causing it.

My oldgarden used to get like this then the rain would gradually drain away, we have far to much at moment dont we. But im sure the garden will settle itself when the weather gets better... glad you found the snowdrops and hellebores, so lovely to see at this time of year.

Thanks 3d, Kokki & Holly, in 40 years we have never had this happen at all until now......it has been the wettest winter ever I think. I suppose the water table is saturated and we are paying the price. Holly seeing some flowers warmed my cockles :)

Oh dear,G..your garden looks as though it slopes away towards the bottom..unless it just appears so on the photo..if so,at least that's the best way to be,and not towards your house..one thing we always checked when looking at properties..it's amazing how some little plants still show their faces,in the light of all that water .:o).At least that's January over with,let's see what February brings !

Hi B....I dont think the garden slopes, have never noticed it before but then we haven't ever had weather like this before have we? Surely February has to be better at least March is only a few weeks away and then maybe it will brighten. Hope so.
Shirley yes we are on clay but again have never had this problem before, In the spring I am going to put lots of multi purpose compost all along the border to see if that helps. Its a nightmare.

We have an area of lawn that often has a puddle forming on it ... but nothing as drastic as yours! I always put grit in the planting holes whenever a new plant or bulb goes in ... definitely helps break up the clay ... lots of home made compost too. Hope it drains off before too long ... :o)

I squelched around in our garden and was rewarded with primroses and wall flowers so it wasn't in vain either!!

Thanks for that tip Shirl, I will adopt that the grit method, why didnt I think of that before? I suppose this is the 1st time I have ever had a problem, thats why!! Lol :)
Rosie, squelch is such a good word isnt it? That certainly describes our lawn anyway, but as you say, daffy bulbs, snowdrops, hellebore & tulips are all poking through, bless em.

Hope it's receding today Gm ... forecast is for dry weather both today and tomorrow ... fingers crossed!

Your garden looks very much like my front garden, Grandmage, although today it has drained a bit. Like you I am on clay. The back lawn is terrible, very slippery and slimy, I have to be careful how I walk. I will be glad when I can lay my paving slabs and get rid of the grass altogether - lots more planting areas :)

Well folks it was receding BUT down came the rain again & again and more forecast, where is it all coming from?? Shirley yes we had two dry days and we are having a new roof on our house, work began and today the 5th it has stopped, the winds have got up it's a nightmare, I know others are having a rougher time but I wish it would stop. Thanks so much Mark such kind words, I do appreciate it. Gee isnt it awful, I am fed up with it all, cannot walk on our grass at all and I dont intend to, when will you pave over your lawn? This year? Our garden is too large to do that, somehow I think just lawn is fairly easy but not at the moment Lol. I am never satisfied!!

Calmer weather today Gm ...still raining but no gales. Are the roofers back to work today? How is the lawn looking now?

Shirley yes calmer today but still raining on and off but instead of light showers we get a deluge for five minutes then it stops, weird. The roofers are back and have started tiling I'm glad to say and the lawn is looking better but still very wet underfoot. :(
Fran we will need months of dry me thinks! or maybe it will just soak away but it needs to stop raining first, Lol. Hope you are Ok in your new home?

So sorry to hear about the problems the weather is causing you and others in your area, I cannot imagine how devastating it must be, just hope it starts to improve and the land eventually starts to dry out, we are also on clay soil but I count my blessings that we have escaped the worst of the weather. Fingers crossed for drier weather and the gardens begin to heal themselves xx

Hi Pp, I suppose here in the SE we are getting away with it really and to be honest it is nothing like the SW, it is there where the worst of it is, poor people. I only posted this because I have never seen in 40 years our garden under water like this. We need a nice dryish spring and those folk in the SW need a lot of help. As you say fingers crossed for some calm. :) x

I hope to lay the slabs this year (if it ever gets dry enough), Grandmage. More rain/wind today but, as you say, we are better off than so many others. A few years back my garden was often under a foot or so of water and it lapped at the walls but never came indoors - not sure what has happened to stop that but I am grateful.

I'm fine, thanks, GM - the brook would have to rise ten feet and spread about four hundred yards to come close ...

Gee I bet we have a hose pipe ban this summer so you can lay your slabs easily!! Water is scary isn't it? It creeps into the corners so easily.
Fran so glad you are a safe distance from harm. My Carex is beautiful by the way, I have it in a pot and it is lovely and green and healthy.

Oh My!!!!!! thats not good is it, I only just found it G'mage so hoping for your sake it no longer looks like that, as you say its worse for others but still not nice to see ones garden like that.....

Indeed Lincs and yes it has gone down now but to walk on the garden or the lawn is impossible, it's like pudding!
