Magnolia Star flowering on Hartford Road 17th March 2014

Magnolia Star flowering on Hartford Road. I liked this tree better some years ago when it was smaller. Now the flowers are very difficult to see as there is no dark background any longer as there was when it was smaller.

lol sure the bees can find it, which is the tree's main purpose! but know what you mean - hard to admire something if it gives you a crick in the neck!

are those wires on the left close to the tree? can't tell from this angle; if they are, would hte tree be in danger of tangling in them in wind?

I've no doubt the bees can find it without the slightest problem!

How did you manage to see those wires? I had to blow the picture up about 4 times before I could see them properly! They are telephone wires I think. No, there is no danger of the tree getting caught up in them if they are what I think they are.

I used to really love this tree when it was only half its current size! I'll have a look on my hard disc & see if I still have a photo of it when it was a lot smaller. The photo may also be a lot small as I probably used my first mobile phone to take photos - some 10 years ago probably!

lol the tree is high enough to stand out - as bees and no doubt other insects see in colours beyond our own visual limits, it oculd be sending out ultra-violet searchlight beams

I have 42" tv as monitor, the screen resolution set at minimum to give the biggest possible display, and I still need 150% zoom, which makes for a *biiiiiiiiiiiiig* display! It's only my central vision that is disabled; nothing wrong with my peripheral vision - and maybe having blurred central vision makes the peripheral more noticeable. I noticed soemthing, so zoomed in even more to see what it was.

coming fromt he depths of Bethnal Green, the only trees taht I saw on a regular basis were the London Planes along the roadsides - there were trees in parks, but I never worked out what they were - probably more of the same!

I think the photos here come up the same size, no matter the size of the original - some of my "uncut" pics had to be zoomed down by about 50% to get it all on the screen, but they look the same size as my cropped ones in GoY.

I bought a new phone just before I moved, which has a camera on it - it's still in the box, as I thought I'd need a phone that I knew how to use during the move! No doubt I'll get round to it one day ...

It that macular degeneration you suffer from? My mother-in-law has that. At least in one eye. Like you describe it she sees just a black hole in the middle of her vision but still has peripheral vision.

Phone pictures are what I use in all the photos you see on GoY. I haven't used our digital camera for years. When my wife bought me it, for a wedding anniversary at least 10 years ago, it cost her £200! It eats up battery power like nobody's business & has only a very limited storage space. Then you have to remember to take it with you when you go out & then remember where you put it down the last time you used it - so you don't loose it! At least with the modern mobiles you keep it in your pocket (or bag!) at all times & you can whip it out whenever something of interest crops up! Plus it can store 1,000s of photos if you have an SD card. I have a 4GB one in my phone, half of it is dedicated to music (100s of songs!) & the other half to photos & videos. I couldn't live without my mobile (not for making or receiving calls as that's just a tiny, minuscule function!) for taking & saving photos/videos. It also has many other functions I'd find it difficult to live without as well! LOL!

that's what they say, but at first they said that "the strain has pulled my retina out of shape" - that's my right eye. I have bleeding in my left eye, dead centre, so i have to sort of look round the blob in the middle.

I found out by accident that ICI did a "visual impairment decorating scheme CD-R (just landed on my desk at work!( they have pics of the four main types of vis-imp, which are brilliant; i got permission from them to use them on my website, asking them to labelt he pics as (C) ICI. - taht was years ago, don't have one any more.

As I don't own the copyright, not sure I could post them here.
