If it were mine, I'd dig that out. I think it's past it Fran. Chance to plant something better!

it looks a bit massive, even after it's been "cut back". and there are shrubs crowded behind and beside it, it does seem to be taking up a lot of space for what might be only a brief seasonal show. I'll find out how to take cuttings, as you suggested in another pic, and see how it goes.

but don't want to do any thing too drastic too early!

wonder how old it is? would it show growth rings, do you think?

Have a look around the base Fran. It's guaranteed to have suckered and you might be able to pull a bit out with roots attached. This is a weed in my garden. It comes up everywhere along the boundary!

thanks, Scottish. When GoYers first told me it was Snowberry, i Googled it, and most links were for "how to get rid of Snowberry"!

maybe I'll try confining it in a tub, but it'd wind up needing a big ;un. bit it'd take some years to get that far

No, you'd be surprised Fran - in my garden, they come up through my holly hedge and can easily make 3 ft in one season searching for light!
I've had to replace the middle section of the hedge and am now onto knocking it back with weed killer as soon as I spot a bit of green. I'm hoping that by the time the hedge grows I'll have won the battle!!
Another neighbour has it as a hedge along the back of their garden - she totally floored it 4 years ago and it's now over 6ft high!
