lol obviously there's a "council gardener course" they go on to learn how to shear plants the same way!
wonder how long before the top fills out enough to be ready to flower as well? I'm assuming that the normal plants DO flower all over!

what shape are they suually, Amy? or at least, what shapes have you seen? I rather like the shape of htis one, but then, I've nothing to compare it with.

Mostly they grow rather tall and leggy and self destruct after roughly 10 years Fran. Perhaps this is a more recent addition to the genus or someone has been a clever gardener. You do have to be clever to keep these lovely shrubs from getting out of order in the smaller garden.

that's the snag about new gardens: I've no idea how old any of the plants are. But I'll take my hat off to whoever shaped this one, and I'll try to keep it so.

Strange that Fran as I was walking past sheltered housing with a bit of corporate planting recently done I noticed some small Ceanothus very like your shrub growing and flowering there. Same shape.
