Good girl , Amy !
I haven't made any preserves yet this year , very unlike me . I have made sloe gin , but that takes minimal effort .
I still have lots about from previous years ; I'm thinking of pickling my abundance of nasturtium seeds , though .

Plum and apple chutney, spiced apple too and tom &red pepper chutney....I'm a bit wary of chillis?
Theres something about making preserves isn't there......

This is very good with cheeses Julia ,I've been cooking and freezing apples ready for winter pies I haven't been out looking for Sloes for sloe gin yet we still have some from last year but then I think its best kept for the next year I've never tried pickling nasturtium seeds I imagine they would be quite peppery let us know how they turn out I'd be interested ... That selection is making my mouth water Pam I made a Mediterranean one last year from a Sarson vinegar recipe it was very good and was marvelous as a topping for Pizza with its courgettes / peppers / onions etc .. I think we like putting food stores away like squirrel :o))

Interesting that's a new one on me Karen I know of Quince jelly , cheese goes so well with so many flavours doesn't it ...

Chutneys easy Karen, makes the kitchen a bit smelly though with the vinager......?

9 Oct, 2014

Amy, I think it is just the same as quick jelly only
more set.

Pam, thanks, I have made chutney in the past, and I remember the smell in the house when mUm used to make her piccalilli. But it's not something I do regularly. Next year, when the greenhouse is up and running, I might have another go at it! I do love a good chutney! And shop bought is nothing like as good is it?

I made spiced apple chutney for the first time last year and liked it so much made two batches thisyear, had it on a cheese cob today with Galloway cheese(my favorite) .......its not too strong a chutney

wild day here after yesterdays storms

I agree Pam the vinegar smell is strong ,Spiced apple sounds yummy I've never had Galloway cheese ,my daughter brought us some slate mine cheese back from her holiday in Wales the whole cheese was covered in a thick wax it was a delicious creamy taste .Karen you will be well away next year when you have your greenhouse watch this space ! Tomato Chilli will be a lovely vibrant colour Angela , I daren't make Blackberry jam unless I make it into a jelly OH doesn't like the pips under his plate ( he will kill me for saying that Lol ) is it quince that has to be almost rotten before you use it Angela ,or am I thinking of something else ?

10 Oct, 2014

No quince should be ripe but not rotten...but if it does not stop raining soon here they will be rotten.

Thanks for that info Angela ,It's tipping it down you would get soaked if you tried to pick them today .. I tried crab apple one year Hb what a disaster it was so thick I couldn't get it out of the jar ,I haven't tried to make it since :o(

Its delicious with cheese Kathy / Fran I'm not sure why its called Jam its the modern way used on TV .. I call sweet stuff Jam !

19 Oct, 2014

aj. rogjt! the "jam" jhrew me - that's for stuff you spread on bread, or make tarts with! didn't this kind use to be called "relish" or something like that?

Your quite right Fran' Relish' is what we would call it, these silly cooks on TV are always trying to give food new names.... like Onion Jam etc.

19 Oct, 2014

onoin jam, yeuch!

19 Oct, 2014

Made me smile! Hot jam! Hot dam! (as they say in the south) pardon my french. I made a relish called Chili Sauce this year (from a recipe of my Mom's) it's gone already! it's made with celery, onion, and fresh tomatoes. I use chili powder as I'm shy of hot peppers. Don't mind a nice curry though.

That relish sounds delicious Lori and has more substance with the other vegs. I always wear thin rubber gloves to chop up the Chilli even then I touched the side of my face it was on fire for ages !

20 Oct, 2014

Makes me break out in a sweat just thinking about it, Amy. ;-)

20 Oct, 2014

is it sweet or hot chili?? i foughty shy of chil at all, given what I'd heard about its heat, until i found out there was a sweet variety, which I rather like. But how to tell the difference?

It is sweet Fran and hot but not so hot that you wouldn't like it ,its a Nigella recipe, Google Nigella Chilli Jam .. I think you would like it ....

You struck lucky there Fran Lol :o)

23 Oct, 2014

Hmmm....bacon jam? I love bacon and strawberry jam on toast...mmmmm..... so how would you make jam out of bacon? considering the fat content that's a little disturbing. ;-) sick bag indeed.

It doesn't sound very nice Lori ,I would rather have a nice crispy rasher of bacon from under the grill ...

24 Oct, 2014

There was a mention of Bacon Jam on an ep of QI I just watched; the small company made both, so decided to combine them. Not sure I'd be first in any taste test queue ...
