Lovely Amy! You've done better than me with this one, I love those beautiful spotted bells. In fact my fave Clems are the winter/spring ones.

Have one of these but only had very small flowers not as good as this what am I doing wrong?

Thanks all this is my favorite winter Clem, probably nothing Peter I have another clem which has the smallest flowers I've ever seen only about as big as a 2p piece this is planted in full sunshine what position is your in ?

The clematis is on an east facing fence and gets quite a lot of sun
I had the plant from Thompson & Morgan about thee years ago and it seems to have struggled the flowers are hardly noticeable I have heavy clay soil perhaps I should feed it more next year.
Is the small one of yours the same variety?

Peter I've checked my plant label it states it prefers South or West wall , when you dug your hole did you put the plant at least 6" deeper than the pot it came in as they need to go deep also the pruning is important for the first couple of years , 30cm Feb 1st year 1 metre 2nd year ..I expect you knew that ! It doesn't mention clay soil I wouldn't know about that , it might be worth asking in a garden center .. My clematis with the tiny flowers is a different one it blooms in the spring it had large flowers in the spring and then tiny flowers in the summer / autumn ... ... it does say a feed of Tomato fertilizer is helpful but I've never fed mine ,sorry I can't be more help ....

Thank you that is very helpful.
I probably need to move it and plant it deeper

Ours has been flowering for about three weeks now, but it is only a baby, so it has a lot of growing to do, cannot get on the garden (too wet) to photograph it.....

Good to know Amy, I realised we had no winter flowering clems, so bought four new ones, pleased to see this one is flowering at the moment...hopefully the others will follow suit.
