artist from Chiapas

We had artists "feria" from all Mexico in town.
This is a family who makes pottery for which the village of Amatenango is famed. In 1990s an artist Pancho Alvares came to Amatenango from San Cristobal de las Casas to teach local potters how to make jaguar figures. This family mastered this art and also jars decorated with jaguars. This is supplementing family's income from farming.

Thanks Klahanie - lovely to see such a variety of art. The bowl with a 'cut-out' edge reminded me of one that I made (I went to pottery classes in my 30s). By mistake I made a small dip on the rim, so now pretend that it was intentional, and place the spoon there!

Thank you for looking and the comment Sheila. Your mistake made me smile as I do the same thing. Try to make it purposeful. Some mistakes can work nicely. Even in gardening.
I had also done some pottery in my younger age. But noting extraordinary that I was proud of. I love porcelain and crystal ...but have many pottery pieces from various artists. We get plenty of them on Vancouver Island and one is even my neighbour and friend. I also visited Canadian potter here in Mexico(living here full time) and he will make a piece for me for my garden. :-) X

Exquisite artistry and mastery of his skill. When I was living in Thailand, I had the privilege of hand feeding a jaguar - what fascinating and awesome animals they are.

I do not think I would be brave enough to hand feed a jaguar. Although we did feed a crocodile in Yucatan's wildlife center.
Jaguars are beautiful animals.
