Starting to Make The House A Home

Starting to Make The House A Home

Bought a Christmas Tree today, from one of the many local Nurseries/Garden centres close to our new home!
We still have boxes everywhere and so much to do but, the front room, at least is starting to look fairly tidy and festive! Also bought some bird feeds(as I ran my supplies down in the last few weeks at the old house)
Hopefully, we'll attract some birds to the garden as I have hardly seen a bird in the four days we've been here!

Hi Paul ...
glad you are settling in . Good to know you have lots of nurseries and garden centres nearby.
The number of birds you have in the garden will be to a great extent governed by how many of your new neighbours own cats !
Does Paddy like the new abode ?

We never see a cat here....or a bird! No, I'm exaggerating. We have a flock of house sparrows. They are very aggressive and consequently the only other birds we see are an occasional blackbird, a wren hopping in the hedge, and the brave little robin. I have stopped feeding them, and am hoping that by the time winter ends there won't be quite as many. We had the roof blocked up with foam, and the little devils pulled all the foam out!

Lovely to see you getting settled in Paul...hope you see some blue tits soon! :)

Good to see you've got your priorities right with the Christmas tree Paul! Our garden birds are a Robin, a pair of Blackbirds and a Wren ... the Starlings have flown off to warmer climes methinks!

Thank you my GOY friends,....glad to be back.
Not seen any cats yet. Five huge Oaks in the green behind our back garden so probably will be birds in them in the summer.
A lovely selection of Garden centres/nurseries but not sure if any of them sell a good selection of ornamental grasses, I suspect not.As my plans are to use quite a few in my new garden borders.
I must now go out in garden now and fix up cold frame .I was on my way out 2 hours ago when the heating engineer arrived(a few problems with heating but, hopefully , soon be Solved!
I hope to see Blue Tits......only occasionally saw them in my old garden!

Looks lovely and what an achievement to buy it, get it indoors and decorate it when you have only just moved! I hope it will be a happy Christmas to remember in your new home.

Garden centres are not generally very good for grasses are they? Surprising, as they are getting very popular now.

Thanks everyone....and, by the way(Shirley), I saw a Jay not actually in our garden but just behind, this afternoon!
The heating situation may be ongoing, Amy.It seems our house has a boiler that few engineers want to work on.We could've done without that complivpvation!!
Thanks for the welcome back Meadowland ..nice to be in for Xmas, yes, although would've been £4700 better off and we completed just a few hours later as chancellor reduced Stamp Duty charges on that actual day!!
Got our eldest coming over with his girlfriend Wildrose and, hopefully, we'll have our new dining table and chairs as its due this coming Thursday.
We do have quite a few nurseries as well as garden centres Karen so I'm hoping some may grow grasses although , probably, mainly the very common ones.I'll have to mail order some, I think!

Paul...just thought I'd mention...I bought grasses this year from Plantify. They were all fabulous mature plants filling their 2 and 3 litre pots. I would have a look at them.
