I don't like it either. It's horrible isn't it, but in Swansea they don't care about their heritage ...
I'm glad I don't live there :o(

Me neither,Hywel, that's why I haven't added a like.!..Swansea isn't much different from many other towns and cities these days..all in the name of progress? I don't think so ! We lost some beautiful buildings to concrete monstrosities in the 60's..now they are realising just what we have lost of our beautiful local stone and Architecture..Thank goodness they didn't knock them all down, and replace with a 'tower' like that, although we have our share of similar blots on the Landscape..

Sweet and sour! Not the happiest combination, but certainly a contemporary view.?

Oh Hywel what a travesty! Swansea planning dept. should be ashamed for allowing these buildings in that spot :o(

It is criminal. I just hate when this happens. I like new buildings but in the right place.

Thank you all for your comments.
This building has been there since the 70s and was originally black :o( It looked even worse then than it does now :o(
In it's efforts to become a vibrant modern city, Swansea has lost all it's character :o(
I'm glad I don't live there, but Carmarthenshire is almost as bad ...

What a shame they didn't leave a green space around the castle, like the park around Paisley Abbey. It could have been so different...

It's right in the middle of the city.
Many years ago there were buildings right up to it, and all around as well.
Those have been pulled down now, and there is a bit of green to one side of it (not seen in the photo)
Opposite the road from it was the 'Castle Gardens' ... now all paved over :o( but still an open space.
But it could have been made much better than it is.

I've clicked 'like' because I think it's a photo which causes lots of discussion.
The comparisons are very striking, but I have to agree with most people, the BT Tower is awful and should never have been allowed.

Thank you ...
You should have seen it when it was first built. It was jet black ! :o(
There was a lot of controversy about it at the time, but nobody took any notice ....
8 Feb, 2015
Oh my goodness, I bet that looked dreadful! No wonder there was controversy, it looks bad enough now!

Such a shame when old buildings are overshadowed like this but, as said before, it has happened everywhere. Town planners seem to have a different outlook to the rest of us - I often wonder where they live?
8 Feb, 2015
Yes Gee I must admit I've often wondered that and if you applied to build something like that, the answer would be a resounding 'No'
8 Feb, 2015
Thank you both ...
Maybe in a few hundred years, people will think of the 'tower' in the same way as we think of the castle today :o)
But I still think it's a monstrosity.

I can think of only one word to describe what I think of this Hywel - Yuk!
8 Feb, 2015
Somehow I doubt that Hywel.
8 Feb, 2015
Yes I agree with you both :(

Can't understand how planning permission was allowed for that tower ... :o(

Lovely photo of the castle , shame about the glass tower spoiling, this is what we get copying the usa and europe eye sores.
Even though we were Coverntrated here some lovely old building s survived the council has done worse than Hitler did and have done the same as your photo here.

Thank you both for commenting. I can't understand it either :o(

I clicked on like too, for the same reason as Waddy. I wish ordinary folk could have more say in what they want or don't want in their home town. It seems councils just do as they please regardless. Here in Godalming, we tried to stop a Tesco store, but they kept on & on re. applying. & have now got the go ahead. All we locals can do is not shop there, but people driving through will I suppose. It's not even needed as we are well supplied by others.

I'm sorry to hear about the Tesco store :(
They probably do these things because there's money to be made from it.
Unfortunately people put money before everything else.
11 Feb, 2015
I agree Hywel thats all they care about now money not community.
Tesco is owned by plc Barclays bank and several others as if they dont get enough from us already.
Asda is Walmart which destroyed towns in the usa making them ghost towns I ve read, no jobs locally nor local shops.
Aldi is owned by the richest German Lidil is owned by his brother.
Morrisons is owned by muslims stared out in Bradford.
Sainsbury s qatar LLC Lord Sainsbury of Turville only owns 4.99 percent now.
Only 85 people now control the world, I wonder why not more like it use to be.

Frightening isn't it ... :(
12 Feb, 2015
It is Hywel sadly to say.
12 Feb, 2015
Thank you ... It's an eye sore isn't it :(
14 Feb, 2015

I cannot say I like it Hywel. That really clashes. I have seen more scenes like this in many places.
