Thank you Sheila....awesome site if massed and in full bloom. Are not they? Next year I will show the main road through the village lined with these trees. It looks spectacular right now.

Those are sizable Jacarandas. Here,on the monorail we call BART,you get something like that. But more of dotting the city with blue clouds.
I planted one years ago- in a bad spot. The best spot I had was taken by a Mimosa tree. I removed the Jacaranda...then a few years later the Mimosa died of a virus they are subject to. So then I had neither.
Oh well,my yards really are too small for tree's.

Yes, jacarandas are huge trees at maturity and probably not suitable for average city lot.

I LOVE Jacarandas. a few years ago a fellow Goyer sent me some seed. I planted it right into my zone 4 garden...(he sent me so many seeds that I could experiment with a few) They came up in a mat and grew beautifully all summer. I tried some indoors and brought some of the outdoor ones indoors...but they did not survive the chaos of the move. I just have to accept that I will see them in lovely goy pics, but never have one for my garden.

I wish we could grow them on Vancouver Island . I am trying to grow some trees and plants "on the edge" but it is usually wasted money and energy.

Klahanie, there is a new cultivar of Mimosa- Albizzia- that has intense red flowers. It looks so much like a Royal Poinciana. More then hardy enough for Vancouver.
What an improvement over the normal pink variety.

Thank you Wildrose.

Stan, I bought Albizia julibrissin E.H. Wilson last year but it is pink. It suppose to be hardy enough for our climate. So far no life on it this spring. I have to look around for the red one. That would look awesome .

Wow! That's beautiful! This is the best way to take a photo of Jacaranda. If the photo is taken again the sky, it's not so spectacular. Another good way to take a photo of Jacranda trees is when it's cloudy. The flowers show up so much better.
There's some here already that are in full bloom. In the next couple of weeks there will be more and more in full bloom. The millions of Jacaranda trees here usually flower through June and sometimes into early July.
