Is the chicken wire so animals don't eat the plants?

No, the chicken wire I originally put up to stop our five little dogs from getting out into the street - as happened on a couple of occasions shortly after we moved in!

It has been in place ever since - almost 15 years! It's now used to support my plants!

So, it serves a dual purpose. :>)

Yes, only not to keep dogs from escaping into the street as the last of our 5 little dogs died 4-5 years ago. It now serves a dual purpose in the sense that it supports my plants & at the same time keeps marauding animals out as well as leaves in the autumn/fall.
