Yew Tree Berries

Beautiful !

Yes it is but poisonous, to animals especially.I can remember this being on a par, maybe higher, than ragwort when it came to grazing cattle or horses.

It looks so juicy so I can imagine animals being attracted to it.

Yes it is poisonous , there is one thing the foliage is use in a good cause and thats in the use of cancer treatment I think they extract the juice ,I know they clip the massive Yew hedges at Blickling Hall to be sent away for this purpose ...

Poisonous to animals but are they to birds?

I've no idea Waddy ,thats something to look into !!

I just wondered.

We've had a check up Waddy it would appear the berries don't harm birds as the seeds go straight through them , good to know :o) ....

I wonder why there are no berries on our yew tree Amy!

you may not have berries as they either male or female

I have two plants Rose I've no idea if I have both a male and a female ,I know I have berries on both plants you would think that if that was the case one wouldn't have berries would you ? strange !

they are both female that you have

you must have a male tee in the vicinity , the pollen is spread by the wind and its very fine.

I have a golden yew in the front garden and has berries but I havnt a clue where the male tree is by me

So much folk lore about Yew Trees , in Speke Hall in Liverpool they have two growing in the court Yard called Adam & Eve
