Now this is a plant that grows too well for us, actually had to stop growing them, they took over the garden, great for you, but not for a small patch....

Isnt it great to have flowers in November. I have a red one and a white/light yellow one, nice, arent they.

It is Dawn still so mild!
I had a yellow but lost it :-(, not seen a red !

Wonder if seed can be collected Kathy?
It is so mild and Christmas seems to be everywhere already and we have flowers - all very weird

I don't know Dawn probably, I've never bothered as this roots so easily from runners.
Aaaargh Christmas not even thought about it yet, did make my cake though, just had Danielle's birthday, and she got engaged :-), then its mine then Suzanne's all before Christmas didn't time that well did we.

Whoo I will look out for runners then. Congrats to Danielle ?
Busy birthday time for you. Mine and Charlotte's are next to each other

Yes, I had one of these in my last garden and was forever cutting out new stems/runners.it spread like mad.neautiful flowers though!

Nothing goes mad in my garden sigh, probably a good thing in some ways.

Yes....in some ways , you should count your blessings!

I think its the clay and cold Paul.

21 Nov, 2015

I had heavy clay in my last garden and I had one of these and another (yellow leaved) Phygellius but they still romped away and spread like mad in the clay.
Mind you, my new garden may be a different matter as it holds water terribly...this is my first winter with the garden planted(no Phygellius here though) so, it will be interesting to see what survives In such wet clay/silt.

21 Nov, 2015

Oh well then Paul, mine might get going soon, Ive only had them about 18 months. So this winter will be an interesting one for you Paul. I think its when the clay holds the wet that its most damaging, dont you. Its quite wet here in places. Lets hope we dont get the bad winter folk have predicted. I've lifted my tender Salvia after Meanie's advice, they dont like the wet apparently and I would hate to lose them so they are potted in the greenhouse now, just as well as it was -5 here this morning.

Yes... I tried at the last house with Salvias but they never lasted more than two seasons but I never lifted them.
The water sits in a couple areas of this garden when it rains heavily or when the neighbour's leave their sprinkler on all night in the summer which doesn't help. And then there is usually sitting water for a couple of days. I think the heavy (solid) clay subsoil just keeps the water in.

so annoying when we cannot grow the less robust plants. Lifting is a pain but worth it for special plants I guess. Our neighbours left their hose pipe running for days one summer, I think they were on holiday and the teenage kids were attempting to look after things. Wish the water could have been useful rather than sitting in a huge puddle over clay.
