Most popular plant here Sheila, because is so drought tolerant, but I do see it in many places stripped by leaf cutting ants.

Is that the same climate as Guadalajara? Temps,rainfall? Just writing that,

Not exactly Stan. There is a mountain range between Guadalajara and the lake so lakeside has more stable climate.
