Mexican poppy (Argemone mexicana ) growing in neglected lot.
It is stiff bluish-green prickly plant , resembles a thistle because of its toothed and prickly leaf margins. It reproduces only from seeds and can be a problem if it is not controlled.

It looks very pretty Janey. The leaves are more blue/silver than what the picture suggests.

I think they are also poisonous to animals (livestock). But most will not eat them because of the prickles and the milky substance they bleed when they are cut is probably bitter
