Almost looks like it blooms.

I do this examination too Bjs. Usually the non-flowering branches starting to develop flower buds in the summer.
They are recognizable from leaf buds...if one knows what to look for.

I looked yesterday at one that had only one bloom this year and you can see the shape of next years buds already starting to form on the non flowering ones
