OH that's interesting. , This is the first one i've seen around here. I wonder about the Monarchs. Usually they cover this sedum at this time. I haven't seen one yet, not even on the milkweed I've been growing. I hope they're not extinct.

Lovely photo Paul. We haven't seen many butterflies or moths at all this year. Not so many Bumble Bees either, it's a bit worrying....

(eastern) American Painted Lady (Vanessa virginiensis).....I believe. Our West coast Painted lady (Vanessa annabella) is not as reddish and no white spots in the orange.
I just looked it up Bathgate...I am not smart enough to know but was curious because I see them occasionally here too. Apparently their caterpillars like hollyhocks.
