Mangrove (Manguezal) trees are native to your area?

There's mangrove trees here in Mission Bay, San Diego. I haven't seen them, I think they're planted where people have no access to them. They wanted to cut them all down because they're non-native. Awful!

Yes, manguezais (mangroove) are native here in northwest
In my particular region - south Brazil you can't find it.
You can finf tourist information on tripadvisor - Mangal das Garças, Belém do Pará.

Wow! You moved from Porto Alegre to far northern Brazil?

There must be some really interesting tropical plants there, right?

Noooooo, I'm still here in Porto Alegre.
This picture was taken in 2014, during a meeting of University Research Deans in Belém do Pará.

Aleya:

Oh, okay. That would have been a big move very far north.

I'm so glad you're posting photos again! I really like your photos.

There is one Mangrove that can grow as far north as the bay area.
It had even managed to colonize a part of San Diego bay..then they removed all of it.

Stan,

I've never heard of Mangrove trees growing that far north.

The mangrove trees you are talking about are growing in Mission Bay, San Diego. People really can't see them because they're growing in an area that's not visible to most people (maybe only from a boat, though). The mangrove trees weren't removed (as far as I know).

The black Mangrove aka River Mangrove was part on an invasive plant removal program.
I read that somebody near Marin and SF bay, planted one and it took.

9 Nov, 2016

Yes, I heard they wanted to remove them in Mission Bay...because they are non-native. People were really against it.

I never knew it grow up in the SF Bay Area, though. How interesting.

Shallow sun drenched waters in summer here can go into the 70's. Its like a microscopic amount of area if you take in all of norcal...but still I bet its good for hundreds maybe thousands? of acres of SF bay. South, near San Jose the bay must reach near 80'f in 2' of muddy water by late summer. Sounds like great Mangrove conditions. Never a frost.

Funny thing Andy is wading in Niles Canyon's stream by July? That water is warm..and I've found places to wade to where you can sit on a rock in a small side stream with yer feet in the water..and the sand is near white (for some reason) with tiny little dace fish swimming under and around in crystal clear water.
My idea of a tropical stream.

Until, the rains comes..back to reality and Salmon cold waters!

Stan,

In 2 inches of water in San Jose during summer the water temperature probably gets much hotter than 80 degrees. lol!

I haven't been to Niles Park in years. I'm not even sure if I've ever been in the water there. I can't remember at this point! lol.
