Thanks both, it is not heated Sandra......it gets some warmth from the log burner in the other room, but this is the first winter the log burner has been put to use, the conservatory is in full sun (when we get some!)......and warms up quickly, and drops as quickly at night!!
pleased you both like the plant...

Sounds like mine,Angela, full sun during the day, till mid afternoon.but cold at night..but no heat at all from another source..well.it has a Radiator, but as much good as a chocolate teapot,as regards being able to sit in it over winter,so we don't even bother to have it on ! Lol x

Sandra our conservatory leads straight into the sitting room, we have no doors, since putting the log burner in the sitting room it has certainly made it more comfortable, but we really haven't had any seriously cold weather to test it, in the evening we move to the front room, where we have the central heating on, so we leave the fire to go out, and you certainly could not sit in there then!!

Nice you have another room to sit in,in the evenings..a change of scenery too ..We have patio doors in our lounge, and added the Conservatory when we moved into a new build....In fact it's 15 years today since we moved in,and our workmen had already started to dig out .....utter chaos that week ,but the best move we ever made :o)

I love Abutilon! It looks terrific!
I had a very large one just like this one. It grew so large and extremely fast. Abutilon flowers all year long here in California.

If I put this outside it would be dead within a couple of hours....

You would be surprised how hardy Abutilons are. When I lived in the San Francisco I used to have many varieties. Some cutting I had gotten from friends up in the Santa Rosa which is one of the furthest cities north in the SF Bay Area. It would get very cold there in winter. The Abutilons were really tough and never get damaged in Santa Rosa (they would occasionally get temps down to 20ºF [-6ºC]).

There are other varieties as you know that will survive out side, we had one similar to this in the Midlands, (much colder than where we are now) which coped admirably!

Yes, it's a very, very tough shrub. I think the flowers are more tender to cold, though.

Yes DD I planted one outside in November last, its called "Wakeurst" and is planted against a west facing fence and despite the frosts we have had lately `m glad to say its doing well.
